The best of Brazilian drums will be also on the International Samba Congress Europe. Come to learn with Master Ailton Nunes, Douglas Alonso & the legendary Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro from Mangueira Samba School. Can you imagine yourself playing “pandeiro”, “surdo”, “agogo” and “cuíca” in the authentic Brazilian style? Believe, it’s possible! The practical lessons provide quick learning for both beginners and expert students, and - of course - lots of fun!

 
 

Bateria Workshops

FRIDAY • 5 HOURS

SATURDAY • 5 HOURS

SUNDAY • 2 HOURS

Participants will learn the basis and rhythmic fundamentals, as well as the main difference between some of Rio de Janeiro's Samba School 'Baterias'. Based on the initial and current history of each characteristic. In addition to the stops that propel and challenge the percussionist in his/her abilities. All levels welcome!

AILTON NUNES

The ‘mestre de bateria’ of the world-famous samba school Mangueira. Mestre Ailton took over Mangueira’s bateria in 2011, that same year receiving the coveted Estandarte de Ouro for best bateria performance at Rio’s Carnaval. Ailton also participates in the group Dose Certa and Ensaio de Escola de Samba de Leandro Lehart.

Pandeiro Sessions

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY • 60 MIN EACH

The participants can expect a very intensive workshop which concentrates completely on the most popular of the Brazilian instruments. Unlimited possibilities for a simple instrument. All levels welcome!

Please, if possible, bring your own instrument.

CARLINHOS PANDEIRO DE OURO

Carlinhos is considered one of the best pandeiro players in the world. He has performed for some famous people like Queen Elizabeth II, and has been featured in many high profile productions, including the movie Black Orpheus.

DOUGLAS ALONSO

Percussionist and drummer born in São Paulo, Brazil. He is a member of the musical group Cadeira de Balanço and has been playing and recording CDs with Fabiana Cozza, Emicida, João Donato, Zizi Possi, Zeca Baleiro, Virginia Rosa, Graça Cunha among others. Douglas played with Dona Ivone Lara and in the last tour of the singer Jair Rodrigues.
